Why padel

The fastest-growing sport on earth hasn't reached Columbus. Yet.

Padel is tennis's social cousin: a smaller enclosed court, glass walls you play off, always doubles, always underarm serve. A beginner has a real rally inside twenty minutes. That is why it swept Spain, then Europe, then the Gulf, and why it's now moving through the US one city at a time.

The club

Four panoramic courts under one warm roof.

An existing industrial shell in the Columbus metro, converted for padel: FIP-compliant court dimensions, 12mm heat-soaked glass on hot-dip galvanized steel, sand-toned turf instead of the usual blue, and lighting tuned for evening play. Built so a sanctioned tournament could run here from day one.

The night

People stay after the thing that brought them.

A padel club in most of the world is a place you spend the evening, not just the hour. SAHRA is designed that way from the floor plan out: a clubhouse facing the courts, coffee and tea done properly, food worth staying for, and no bar. Late nights, good company, all ages.

Our story

A summer in Lebanon, every other day on the court.

SAHRA started the way padel usually does: a cousin saying "you have to try this." One summer in Lebanon, a few new courts, a group of cousins who'd never held a racket. Within a week we were playing every other night. It was cheap, it was social, and nobody was ever left on the sideline.

Coming home to Ohio, there was nowhere to play. Not in Columbus, not anywhere close. So we're building it. SAHRA is founded by Houssam Hajar, an Ohio real estate operator and a student at Cornell's Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management. The first club is Columbus. The plan is the Midwest.

Questions

Things people ask us.

Where exactly will the club be?

Columbus metro, west side, near I-270. We're in site selection with industrial brokers now and will announce the address the day the lease is signed. Waitlist members hear first.

When does it open?

Court order goes in Q1 2027; doors open fall 2027. Construction timelines move, and we'd rather tell you a real date than a hopeful one.

I've never played. Is this for me?

Yes, more than for anyone. Padel is the easiest racket sport to pick up, and our free intro clinics assume you've never held a racket. Most founding members will be new to the sport.

What's the difference from pickleball?

Pickleball is a paddle game on a badminton-sized court. Padel is closer to tennis: a bigger court, solid rackets, a pressurised ball, and glass walls you play off. It's faster, more athletic, and built for doubles.

Is there a bar?

No. SAHRA is a dry club. Coffee, tea, fresh juice and real food, open late. It's a big part of why families and all ages feel at home here.

Does joining the waitlist cost anything?

No. It's free, and it doesn't commit you to anything. It gets you first access to founding memberships when they open.
